If you are new to theological reading, here are a couple of suggestions: 1. Start in a general area rather than a specific one. Therefore, rather than reading a book in the category of anthropology, I would suggest you start with the Gospel category. This will give you a general overview of diverse issues related to the foundation of our faith. 2. Assess your level of reading by reading a couple of one star books in that category. Pick any one of the one star books in the gospel category and read it. For example, “The Gospel for Real Life” is a great place to begin. 3. Read a few one start books in the gospel category and then move to another category of interest and do the same. Move from the more general categories to more specific ones. 4. After reading several one star books, increase the level of difficulty by reading a two start book in a general category again, such as The Gospel or Jesus. 5. Here is a solid top five list of one star books: “The Gospel for Real Life” by Jerry Bridges, “Knowing God” by J.I. Packer, “In Christ Alone” by Sinclair Ferguson, “The Reason for God” by Timothy Keller, and “Humility” by C.J. Mahaney.
